The O-RAN A1 Interface connects the Non-RT RIC, usually part of the O-RAN SMO, to the Near-RT RIC.
It lets slower, non-real-time intelligence influence near-real-time RAN behavior without putting the SMO directly in the radio control loop.
Used for
- Policy guidance for Near-RT RIC applications.
- Enrichment information that helps xApps make decisions.
- ML model management and handoff from Non-RT RIC workflows to Near-RT RIC workflows.
Timing
A1 is for non-real-time to near-real-time coordination. The Near-RT RIC still makes faster control decisions through the O-RAN E2 Interface.
